My UCLA class in "DIY Music Marketing" is presenting this free concert at the Key Club's Plush Lounge next Friday, June 4th. Fifteen acts from seven different countries, and it's a benefit for a charity called GINA for the Missing. Please show up. I'd really like an "A" in this class.

Wow. Do I have to read *one* more review of how AWFUL Kristen Stewart's new Joan Jett-inspired hairdo is? The truth is, folks, I LOVE this hair, I HAVE this hair, and I WORSHIP this hair. It's better than the hair KStew started with, and let's face it, copying Joan Jett's hair to play her in the new Runaways movie is not the worst KStew could do. No, the worst she could do is to pretend to be Joan Jett in a movie about the Runaways, pretend she knows ANYTHING about rock n' roll, and pretend that she's an actress. Oh, wait. She's already done all that. I guess the hair isn't the worst thing, now is it?
Thurs 04.16.09 - One of my favorite Long Beach area artist/musician is Nicole Welke, who not only is a great musician, but is a fabulous painter of cutely subversive paintings. If you have been in the Ladies Room at Alex's Bar, you have seen her pink baby/bunny and little girl paintings on the walls. If you are a fan of the True Blood tv show, then you have seen Nicole's paintings.
Come out next Saturday night to Salon Pop to see Nicole's work in person and have a lovely time with the rest of us!
What: Art Show at Salon Pop, featuring Nicole Welke's paintings
When: Saturday, April 25, 2009
Time: 7-10pm
Where: Salon Pop, 1085 Redondo, Long Beach
My neighbor, Ryan, has been painting away all fall for the big opening at the Taylor de Cordoba gallery in LA this upcoming Saturday night. Consider this your invitation.

For folks in Seattle and Chicago who love the holidays and burlesque, you are in luck this December! The nice ladies and gentlemen at the Land of the Sweets burlesque troupe are putting on their own version of the Christmas classic, The Nutcracker.
I want to know when they will be putting on a Los Angeles show?!?!?!?
Heads up on this show via Gapers Block.
I totally want to go to this. But I am far too lazy to leave the house and pay $35. Sigh.

Tonight, Wed. Aug. 27, 2008, Mad Juana is playing at Alex's Bar with the Harbortown Saints and it is a show not to be missed.
Mad Juana is a fabulous new band out of New York City fronted by Sam Yaffia (Hanoi Rocks & New York Dolls) and his wife Carmen Guy. Musically think Squirrel Nut Zippers on a mad gypsy tear through New Orleans on speed. Excellent, I tell you, excellent.
This is a show not to be missed.
