Thrice - Illusion of SafetyThrice - Illusion of Safety (Sub-City)

Now I have been in denial of listening to the band Thrice for quite a while. They are a huge trend at my school which completely pushes me away from them. I thought I had this illusion of safety from Thrice until the Punk Rock Bowling Tournament. BYO was passing out goody bags with a mixed promo cd in it. Every song on the cd was so good that I listened to the songs over and over again. Since I liked the Thrice song on the cd so much, I put myself up to reviewing the new Thrice album. I thought that hey if the promo CD was so good their new album must be great.

There are so many great songs on this sophomore album, The Illusion of Safety that I don't know which ones to speak of. This is a band with no specific title or genre of music. The band keeps their fans from becoming bored with the same three chord songs so every song is worthy. Thrice has no genre label to fit them because they are not that simple. Even just looking at the song titles on the back of the album one can tell that the music has awe to it. My favorite songs are: Betrayal is a Symptom, Deadbolt, and The Beltsville Crucible. The names of the titles are so intriguing and abstract you cannot help but wonder how the music sounds.

To restate how great the band is: they started in 98 and have been rocking ever since. They have been touring with the bands Face To Face, Midtown, and The Movie Life and have toured with A.F.I., Alkaline Trio, and Hot Water Music. Thrice started and three months after starting they recorded an E.P. A year later they recorded their first full length.

So my thought for the day, Thrice is a band with great lyrics but you cannot just go on the Internet to get them and download the songs, then obtaining the new album. Go and buy the new album. Don't just pretend you have it.
